Tianchen Wei passed his qualifying exam, with his proposal entitled “Microstructural Evolution during Laser Forming of Sheet Metals: the impact of dynamic recrystallization.” Congrats Kimi!

Dr. Benjamin Anthony becomes the third student to graduate with a PhD from the MONSTER Research Group, defending his dissertation entitled “Quantifying the Role of Coarse Intermetallic Particles on Twinning Behavior in Magnesium Alloys.” Congrats Ben!

Dr. Sarah Hamilton successfully defended her dissertation, “Materials and Manufacturing Study of Uranium Mononitride/Zirconium Carbide Cercer Composites for Use in Space Nuclear Propulsion” and is the second student to obtain their Ph.D. in the MONSTER Research Group.  Congrats Sarah!

Megan Hurley passed her qualifying exam, with her proposal entitled “The Effects of Thermomagnetic Processing on Martensite Development in Carbon Steels.” Congrats Megan!!

Dr. Justin Norkett—Dr. Miller’s first graduate student—becomes the first student to graduate with a PhD from the MONSTER Research Group. Successfully defending his Dissertation “On the Multiplicity of Mechanisms of Liquid Metal Embrittlement.” Congrats Justin!

Yonguk (Tony) Lee passed his qualifying exam, with his proposal entitled “Heteroepitaxial recrystallization in Ni-based superalloys: its nucleation and boundary character.” Congrats Tony!

Dr. Tim Eldred, friend of the MONSTER research group, successfully completed his dissertation defense at North Carolina State University.

Dr. Tori Miller recently published “Nucleation of recrystallization in magnesium alloy grains of varied orientation and the impacts on texture evolution” in the Journal of Magnesium and Alloys.

Tori won the TMS Young Leaders International Scholar – JIM Award, and traveled for the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials (JIM) meeting.
